After last years great total raised by the veterinary profession of £25 for the 2003/4 academic year, Veterinary Vouchers is proud to say that £0 has been raised by the veterinary profession for the 2004/5 academic year!
Back To The TopThe deadline (1st July) for applications for student bursaries has now expired.
We would like to congratulate the whole of the veterinary profession for the huge total of donations to our Veterinary Vouchers C.T.F. towards student bursaries for this year for your future colleagues. It amassed the staggering amount of £25. Yes, that is correct, there are no noughts on the end! The £25 was donated by one vet!
We are completely overwhelmed by your generousity, which I presume is a demonstration of a 'compassionate' profession? By profession, I am a specialist, advisory teacher (without our profession there would be no veterinarians), and thankful my professional values are totally different. All the staff who work on Veterinary Vouchers are NOT paid and the cost of hiring a stand at either the BSAVA and BVA congresses comes out of my own pocket. Perhaps you feel you have reached such a high standard of education that you do not need educating to help others?
However, on the plus side, I am pleased to announce that one student Clare Yeadon has received considerable help towards her tuition fees. How you may ask on £25. Well, obviously it hasn't been due to your intervention. We allowed Clare to fund raise on our behalf with a written guarantee that all monies raised will be sent to the bursar at her chosen college to help pay the fees. So, yes, we will help and go on helping these dedicated students who have already obtained a degree in animal sciences and who now wish to enter such a 'compassionate' profession. A profession that in one academic year only donated £25 to our bursary fund and is also unwilling to adopt a saver scheme, vouchers and stamps to help their clients especially the elderly to save for veterinary treatments for their companion animals.
I will spare you from any further 'Weakest Links' comments and perhaps leave it to others to judge as a copy of this letter will be sent to all veterinary associations, veterinary journals (no doubt it wont get published), pet magazines and other interested press. Hopefully, they will take it on board as I am sure the pet owning community will be inspired by your generousity and compassion. Copies will also be sent to every bursar at each vet school so that students in similar circumstances can also under our umbrella raise monies for their own tuition fees. We will also be giving an update on our website and informing all students who have submitted applications forms that we are able to pay for a cup of tea at their college interview.
Perhaps next year we can look forward to setting a staggering total of £30. I think inflation or gift aid would allow for that.
So come on you veterinarians, let's pull out all the stops, and see if we can reach the grand total of £30 for 2003/4 academic year!
